Why I built it
Brush your teeth. Where are your shoes. Did you do your reading.
I got tired of saying those three sentences every morning, so I built this for my own two over some time off, with no plan for anyone else to use it.
Then my younger one added “read a book” to her own list of jobs. Nobody asked her to. There was no reward attached to it — she added it because she wanted the tick.
That was the part I had not expected. I built it to get chores done. What it actually did was hand her something to be in charge of, and a child working through a list she wrote herself is a different child from one being told.
Not obedience. The asking just stopped.
Three months in, I noticed I had not mentioned shoes in a while. I want to be careful with that, because two children is not evidence and the internet is full of parents generalising from their own house.
It was enough to make me put it on the store and find out.
